Principal's Blog - Week of Sept. 11
Meet the Teacher
We will be hosting our Meet the Teacher evening on Thursday, Sep. 21. Each homeroom teacher will host an information session at 6:30, with a repeat session happening at 7:00. Teachers will work through a short presentation covering things like grade-specific curriculum, class communications, Google Classroom, routine and supplies. There will also be lots of time for questions and there is no need to make an appointment or book a time. Individual student progress will not be shared at this time.
Terry Fox Run
This year’s Terry Fox Run will be on Wednesday, September 20 after the Welcome Back/Terry Fox assembly running from 9:30am-10am in the gym. Our K-3 classes will be running after the assembly, and our 4-6 classes will be running before lunch..
PM Kindergarten will receive an in-class visit from Ms. Berezowski to talk about Terry Fox before heading outside to start their own run starting at 1:15.
Each student will receive an “I am Running For …” sticker and will receive a stamp for every lamp to keep track of how many laps they complete.
For fundraising this year, we will still be focusing on the Toonies for Terry initiative, however it is strongly suggested that families donate at TerryFox.org. Keep an eye out for more information coming home soon. .

Provincial Curriculum
Over the past couple of years, our provincial government has been releasing new, updated curriculum for different grades. We started with Literacy and Math at the K-3 levels and Phys. Ed. and Wellness at the K-6 levels. This year includes new curriculums in Science for K-3 and Literacy and Math for 4-6. It is important to remember that teachers, schools, and even school systems, do not choose what gets taught to students. These choices are made at the provincial level. Major curricular themes specific to your child’s grade will be outlined by your child’s teacher during their Meet the Teacher evening on Sep. 21st. If you still have questions about any of these new curriculums, they can likely be answered easily by accessing the Government of Alberta Curriculum website.
Have a great week!
