School Development Plan - Well Being for Learning

22550294-2ae1-4f5c-840d-f075ed5acbcb

This year for the Well Being for Learning section of our school development plan, we will be focusing on Connectedness and Belonging. School connectedness is when each student feels that the adults and peers at their school care about them as a learner and as an individual. This sense of belonging can have a significant impact on a student’s ability to learn. Strong, positive relationships among staff and students help to create safe and caring learning environments that benefit everyone. We are implementing strategies that will enhance this aspect of our work, and using student surveys to collect data to see how we are doing.

Hawkwood School Safety Patrol

The patrollers are back at Hawkwood School! Please be patient with them, they are learning and have a specific procedure to follow. You will hear “point, double check and proceed.” Once you hear “proceed”, they will open the crosswalk so you can walk safely across. This is a leadership position in our school and they are very excited to contribute to the safety of our students.

If you have any questions or concerns contact Ms. Nicole Pearson at nlpearson@cbe.ab.ca (Patrol Supervisor).

Grade 4 Light & Shadows

Our recent warm, sunny weather provided an excellent opportunity for our grade fours to explore first hand some of the aspects of their Light Shadows science unit.

Learning about how the sun impacts the daylight at different times throughout the day, how a sundial really works and how the opaqueness of clouds impacts sunlight were some of the main concepts that they learned about. Learning by doing is always the most engaging.
