Crosswalk Safety
Our school safety patrols have returned following a few years of being absent. In addition to being a great learning and leadership experience for our students, they also provide an extra layer of safety for our families using our crosswalk. To support their work, we are asking for your patience when using the crosswalk. They are trained to wait for a break in the traffic prior to putting up their STOP sign. This often takes a bit longer than if you just crossed using the flashing lights. Also, remind your children not to talk to or be silly with the patrols when they are crossing. Things get busy in the morning and afternoon and the patrols have an important job to do.
Online Read-Alouds
Looking for some free family time activities this holiday season? Scholastic’s StroryVoice provides free opportunities for families to listen to authors and illustrators read their books aloud online.

Parents also have the opportunity to enter their child’s age, so the reading sessions can be tailored to the reading and interest level of the child.
How Does Geography Influence Human Activity in a Community?
This is one of the essential questions that has been guiding some recent work in our grade 3 classes. In this curriculum, students examine three communities around the world finding out the ways in which their lives are impacted by their physical surroundings.
One of these inquiries looks at how some Peruvian cultures use llamas in many different ways. Also looking at how daily life reflects quality of life as families work together to grow crops and raise animals. This unit included the creation of a “Wet Felting”project which also included learner outcomes from the Fine Arts curriculum like how to create texture in 2D and 3D art projects.
Have a great week!
