Hawkwood Family Flags
One of the greatest assets we have as a school community is the degree of diversity we host under one roof. Last fall we looked through PowerSchool checking birth countries for all of our Hawkwood School students. We were excited to find out that our Hawkwood School Families represent forty-two different countries from all over the world. With this new data, we ordered flags from each of these 42 countries. Over our recent break, these flags have been hung in our Hawk’s Nest. We often speak about the value of diversity, it is nice to find tangible ways to display it.
We have also added a world map and an index so students can find the name of the country connected to any of our displayed flags, as well as where that country is in the world.
Later in the spring, we will be hosting a cultural evening where families can come to share, learn and enjoy the diversity that we get to see here every day.
Gymnastics
Our annual gymnastics unit has begun and Ms. McNeilly has some reminders that will keep students safe in the gym for the next few weeks.
- Bare feet or grippy socks are the two options to wear during gymnastics activities. Shoes and non grippy socks can cause a lack of stability and grip.
- Hair longer than shoulders needs to be tied back in a ponytail, bun, braids, or pigtails, keeping a few extra hair ties in your child’s backpack may be helpful.
- Hoodies, loose fitting clothing, jewelry, and watches need to be kept in students classrooms before coming to the gym for PE or not worn during the gymnastics unit.
Have a great week and stay warm!
