Principal Blog - Week of Feb. 5th
Report Cards Online
Starting Tuesday, January 30, parents and guardians can log into PowerSchool and view your child's recently updated report card. Instructions on how to do so can be found on the Accessing Report Cards Through MyCBE webpage.
Your child's report card represents their learning and growth relative to curricular outcomes to this point in the school year. It is important to keep in mind that these outcomes are designed to reflect where each student should be at the end of the school year. It is possible that some students are not yet meeting these outcomes, or meeting them to the degree that they will be in June. Parents are also reminded that schools no longer print report cards.
More information covering different aspects of student achievement like assessment, instructional design and body of evidence, can be found in a recent Principals Blog from January 22nd.
Although we have Student Led Conferences coming up later in March, if you have any questions about your child's report card, please reach out to your child's teacher any time.
It’s Book Fair Time!!
We are hosting a Scholastic Book Fair starting Monday, February 5th. It will be in our Learning Commons and will be open each day, Monday - Thursday from 1:00 - 5:00, and from 9:00 - 2:00 on Friday. The book fair will wrap up on Monday, February 12th. If parents are stopping by to check out the books, be sure to check in at the office.
Puddles, Ice and Gravity
Our unseasonably warm weather has led to an early meltdown of most of our school yard. It makes for a challenging environment as things thaw and then refreeze each night. We are managing our sidewalks and walkways as best we can with extra attention and ice melt.
Despite our coaching to the contrary, our students are inherently drawn to ice and puddles. Although the temperatures are up, wearing runners outside can be treacherous in these conditions. It is also a great idea to provide your child with an extra set of clothes in case they get a bit too close to a puddle.
We are sure there is lots of winter remaining in this school year. With our weather continuously changing it can be a challenge to ensure your children are equipped with what they need. We are doing everything we can to keep them upright and dry. It is also possible that by this time next week, everything could be very dry, or we could be under 10 centimeters of snow.
Family Engagement on Looping
Our school engagement on our practice of looping is now closed. Thank you so much for sharing your feedback on your looping experience. Almost 20% of Hawkwood School families responded to our survey. Our teaching and support staff will also be sharing their thoughts next week. Results, and decisions stemming from those results, will be shared in the upcoming weeks.
