Kindergarten Registration - January 15th

Registering your child for school is an exciting milestone for many families! Starting Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, kindergarten registration will be open for the 2024-25 school year. For children to be eligible to register and attend kindergarten next school year, they must turn five years old on or before Dec. 31, 2024.

If your child is not a Canadian citizen, there is a specific registration process your family must follow.. Please review our New to Canada page alongside the Kindergarten Registration Guide to ensure you understand the requirements. 

We are very excited to welcome our new Kindergarten families to our Hawkwood School Community. We will be hosting a Kindergarten Open House for parents on Thursday, January 25th. This is an information session hosted by school administration where we share information about the school and the kindergarten program. It also includes a Q & A session as well as a school tour. 

Looping at Hawkwood School

Our practice of looping (remaining with the same homeroom teacher and group of students for two instructional years) has been in place at Hawkwood School for several years. There are some pressures that have developed over the past few years that are leading us to examine this practice in the new year. An important part of this process will include engaging our Hawkwood School families about the experiences they have had looping. While this is a programming decision that will be made at the school level, we need to find out more about how the practice of looping impacts our students. 

We will be reaching out to our families in the new year through multiple communication avenues to gather information that will help us make an informed decision. Stay tuned!
