School Planning & Engagement

Although we are only halfway through this school year, planning for the 2025-2026 school year has already begun. We received our enrollment projections last week and have begun to look at sources of new student data and aspects of our school development plan. This will be followed by creating budget scenarios and staffing plans. An important part of this process involves hearing directly from our HAwkwood School families.

On Tuesday, March 3rd at the Hawkwood School Council / Friends Society meeting, we will be completing our School Planning Engagement. This is your opportunity to find out more and share your thoughts and questions around our school development plan and school fees. The meeting will begin at 6:30 in the Learning Commons of Hawkwood School.

This four minute video, School Planning and You provides an overview of the school planning process.

Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day originated in Halifax, Nova Scotia back in 2008 with two high school aged students that saw a need to be kind while another student was not being treated with kindness and respect. That one act of compassion quickly spread beyond the school. In 2008, British Columbia’s provincial government proclaimed a provincial Anti-Bullying Day in February, and over time the idea of wearing pink to stand against bullying spread throughout Canada and then internationally. Today, Pink Shirt Day is observed annually in Canada on the last Wednesday of February.

We will be recognizing Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 25th. This will be led by our Grade 1 Team with an assembly at 10:00.

Can You Tessellate?

Our grade 6’s can! Part of their Math curriculum includes how to rotate, reflect and translate shapes, so they created their own. Much of their inspiration came from indigenous designs including the ones found on Metis star blankets.

Report Cards Online

Report cards

Starting Tuesday, February 24th, parents and guardians can log into PowerSchool and view your child's recently updated report card. Instructions on how to do so can be found on the Accessing Report Cards Through MyCBE webpage.

Your child's report card represents their learning and growth relative to curricular outcomes to this point in the school year. It is important to keep in mind that these outcomes are designed to reflect where each student should be at the end of the school year. It is possible that some students are not yet meeting these outcomes or not meeting them to the degree that they will be in June. Parents are also reminded that schools no longer print report cards.

Although we have Student Led Conferences coming up later in March, if you have any questions about your child's report card, please reach out to your child's teacher any time.

Have a Great Week
