What Happens Underneath the Snow?
Ms. Penner’s grade 1 class recently pondered this very question. The collaborative understanding they created has become a center piece in our hallway. Through class discussions, pictures and books, students created artwork and ideas contributing to the final product. These types of collaborative, hands-on projects, help to extend students' oral language and understanding of teamwork. This one, particularly, increased their understanding of seasonal changes.

Buddies & Bee Bots
One of the most effective strategies for retaining something new that you have learned is to teach it to someone else. Recently, Ms. Pflug's grade 3 class taught their grade 2 buddies in Mrs. Connell's class how to use our Bee Bots! Grade 3's are working on creating sets of instructions that can be followed by a person or a machine. They were able to teach their buddies how to use computational thinking and Math strategies to have their Bee Bots move from one square to another.
The Bee Bots are yet another example of how the Hawkwood School Council and Friends Society helps to support the learning that happens everyday in our school.
Lost & Rarely Found
Our lost and found has been piling up since prior to our Winter Break and will be donated as of Wednesday, Feb. 11th. If you have not been in a while, come by and have a look. You may find something familiar.
Family Literacy Night - Save the Date!
We will be hosting a school-wide Family Literacy Night on Thursday, March 5th from 6:30 - 8:00. We invite families to drop in and explore stations showcasing high impact strategies and supports for both Division 1 and 2 that align with the Science of Reading. We look forward to seeing you there!
