Volunteer Appreciation

During a recent volunteer Appreciation Week, Volunteer Canada highlighted that “every moment matters”. These moments in our school community can take on many different forms.

The moment a parent helps a student with something in class.

The many moments that, when put together, create a fantastic school event like a dance or a movie night.

The moment a student grins when they get their fun handed to them.

The moment a principal grins when his wishlist gets approved from some amazing fundraising efforts.

The moment a parent has a first conversation with another parent from their child’s class.

Each of these unconnected moments are worthwhile on their own. When you combine them however, you create something way beyond the sum of these parts,  you create community. The sharing of time, skills, empathy, and creativity is vital to the inclusivity, strength, and wellbeing of our school communities.  For this, our Hawkwood School Volunteers, we are eternally grateful. Thank you!

Special thank you to those family members to took time to attend our recent Volunteer Appreciation Tea earlier today.

Exploring and Expressing Uniqueness in Kindergarten

Our Kindies have recently been exploring what makes each of them unique. Something that makes one person special, can be very different from what makes another person special. These differences are not only ok, but worthy of celebrating and something that, as a school community, makes us stronger.

Do You Know What a Tessellation Is?

Part of the grade 6 Math program includes understanding symmetry.  A great way to do this is to learn about tessellations that are often found in Art. Indigenous artwork, including visual art, weaving and beadwork, contain many amazing examples of tessellations. Students then created some of their own tessellations by reflecting, translating and rotating shapes.

Have a great week!
