Welcome to the 2024-2025 year at Hawkwood School! We are very excited to be back and are looking forward to seeing all of our students on Thursday, Aug. 29th at 9:05.
Time away from school is an important part of children’s growth and development. The summer provides increased opportunities for exploration, activities and discoveries that are often difficult to fit in during the school year. Included in this is also valuable downtime. Time to be bored, to self-direct, to figure out what they are interested in or how they want to fill their time, are also valuable pieces of self-discovery for our students.
With all this in mind, we also understand the value of routines and how they can help regulate our children. Educators always like seeing the students come back and talk about their summer adventures and reconnect with their friends. We are looking forward to seeing you on Aug. 29th
School Start-Up
On August 27th, you will receive a welcome email from your child’s teacher. Included will be some instruction about what our start-up procedures will look like on August 29th. All teaching staff will be outside with class lists on Thursday morning. The map (aerial view) below indicates where students should gather and connect with their teacher relative to their grade level.
School Safety
In order for 700+ students to get in and out of school safely each day, there are some important safety issues to remember:
Crosswalks
Please do not park on or within 5 metres of crosswalks. This ensures that students (and parents) who are using the crosswalks are seen by drivers.
School Parking Lot
It is never safe to drop-off or pick up your child in the school parking lot. It is over capacity and very busy throughout each day with special needs buses, deliveries and needs to be kept clear for first responders.
Bus Lane
We load and unload almost 300 students twice each day to and from our 6 buses. The entire north side of Hawkwood Blvd. in front of the school is a bus lane and is not available for parking or drop-off.
Dropping Off
The drop-off and pickup times each day get very busy and often congested. Double parking, u-turns and illegal parking increase the level of risk for our students and families. Please drive carefully.
See you next week!
