National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
There is no school for students on Monday, September 30th in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Our Grade 3 Team and Ms. MacDonald did a wonderful job on Thursday afternoon of reminding us why this day is so important. Since Hawkwood School is on Treaty 7 land, we are all treaty people.
The students shared songs, stories, videos and reading about the importance of why we recognise this day.
Things You May Not Have Known About the Bus
Successfully navigating school transportation can seem overwhelming. Online registrations, MyCBE, fees and maps can be a lot if you have not done it before. Our system safely moves almost 30,000 students to and from school each day. For Hawkwood School alone, our number is about 350. Once things get up and running, things usually go quite well. With this in mind, we still receive many questions each week related to bussing and transportation. If you have a child that takes the bus, here are a few things to remember that you may not have known.
Where is my bus? Can I track it?
Yes you can. By going to MyBusStop, and entering the Hawkwood School code of CBE6JYLXDZ, you can find out exactly where your child’s bus is at any time.
Will the driver let my child off the bus if I am not there?
Yes, if your child is grade 1 or older. Kindergarten is the only grade level where drivers will not let a student off the bus without a parent present at the bus stop.
Can I get a bus stop closer to my house?
Probably not. The bus stops are developed using the data that is collected from registrations started in June of the previous school year. It is most likely that your current stop is the closest one to you.
Can I get my child on a different bus?
Probably not. All of our buses are quite full and the ridership of each has been determined by the registrations of hundreds of families.
If I have a question or an issue around transportation should I phone the school?
Yes, if you have checked the CBE Transportation Page already. The answer to most of your questions, many of which we cannot answer, can be found there.
Terry Fox Run Results
Big thank you to Ms. McNeilly for coordinating another great Hawkwood School Terry Fox Run. Thanks to the great support of our Hawkwood School families, we raised over $3400 on Terry’s behalf. It is also important to note that our school has participated in this important annual event each year since we opened in 1994. Thanks to all of our Hawkwood School families for 30 years of support for the Terry Fox Run.
It is also important to share that Ms. McNeilly will be starting her maternity leave soon as her last day with us is Friday, September 27th. We want to wish her all of the best with the adventures that lie ahead for her and her family.
Have a great long weekend!
