Hawkwood School’s New Assistant Principal
I’m so excited to be joining you next year and wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I’m coming to Hawkwood from Abbeydale School, where I’ve had the privilege of serving as Assistant Principal. I’m incredibly proud of the work I’ve done there in support of students, staff, and families. Prior to that, I worked at Captain Nichola Goddard School and Twelve Mile Coulee School, and throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to teach and lead in schools across the city, from Kindergarten to Grade 9.
I’m passionate about creating a school environment where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported—and where laughter and learning go hand in hand. I believe in leading with warmth, curiosity, and a deep respect for the people I work with.
Outside of school, I’m a mom, a lover of great books and cozy coffee shops, and someone who’s always up for a good laugh and a meaningful conversation. I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone in the Hawkwood School Community.
Thanks in advance for welcoming me—I can’t wait to get started!

Have you Ever Seen a Math Garden?
An important part of early Math skills is the ability to represent and build numbers in different ways. Our grade ones took this to new levels by taking many of their math talks, rhymes, read-alouds, songs and chants and connecting them to Spring and Summer Science ideas to build a great Math Garden.
Some of the Math and Science learning outcomes that were explored during this garden project included:
- Counting backwards and forwards
- Meaning of addition
- Meaning if subtraction
- Addition and subtraction relationships
- Symmetry exists in nature
- Plants have stems, big plants have bigger stems
- Half plus half equals whole

How Do Animals Thrive and Survive?
Our grade 1 classes recently explored this question as part of their work in Science. Included in this work were other questions:
- What environment is best and how does it provide food?
- How do animals protect themselves?
- What is an adaptation and how does it help animals?
- What impact do humans have on animals in Alberta?
- What animal parts and products have been used by Indigenous peoples?
Many answers to these questions can be found in the fabulous triaramas that the students made.
Are You Missing Something?
Our growing piles of lost and found items are on display. Come by and have a look for something you may be missing. They will remain out and available all next week. After June 23rd, all items will be bagged up and donated to local charities
Have a great week!
