What Adaptations do Alberta Animals Make to Survive and Thrive?
Our grade 1 team has been exploring this question for a while, examining both structural and behavioural ways that animals adapt to their environments. Earlier this week, they hosted guests from AIWC (Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation) who shared information about how things like animals' wings, beaks, ears or antlers change based on their environment. They also shared why animal behaviours like hibernation, migration, hiding babies and breathing less help them survive.
We also want to thank all of our grade 1 families who supported AWIC with donations to keep their programs running. Each year AWIC rescues, rehabilitates and releases 1000 - 2000 wild animals in Alberta. This week alone there are over 100 animals in care. For more information on how to support AWIC and their work, check out the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation website.
