Are You Missing Some School Messages?

Our big and busy school has lots going on that we update our Hawkwood School Families on each week like field trips, picture days and student fees. This also includes information from our School Council and Friends Society about special events, activities and or fundraisers. Due to federal legislation (Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, or CASL), parents/guardians need to subscribe if you want to continue receiving commercial electronic messages from your child’s school and the Calgary Board of Education. Unless you are signed up, anything to do with money, fees, orders or special events that you may be missing.


To subscribe to receive commercial electronic messages, go to www.cbe.ab.ca/s​ubscribe to enter your email address and click Subscribe. Please enter the same email address where you receive other school messages and that you use to log into MyCBE, if applicable. (Note: the link will open outside of CBE's website.)​

Sun Health For Kids

We often hear that one of the best aspects of living in Calgary is the amount of sun that we see regularly. In addition to the health benefits of vitamin D, it also makes us happy. It is the time of year, however, where we need to ramp up how we protect our kids from too much of that great sunshine. Our partners at Alberta Health Services have some ideas that they shared with us.

Making Math Visual in Grade 3

How can you represent Math in a visual way? Approaching Math from different perspectives can increase students' understanding of some Math concepts. Part of the curriculum in Gr. 3 includes:


  • Visualizing and modeling products as arrays
  • Creating equal groups of objects
  • Using repeated addition to solve multiplication


Ms. Wishart’s class recently created buildings in an “Array City” to show different ways you can organize objects to represent multiplication.




Monday Morning Was Magical with Music


Music Monday is a celebration of Music Education that takes place each year all across Canada. It is organized by The Coalition for Music Education. Under the direction of Ms. MacDonald, we spent some time on Monday morning celebrating the wonderful things that happen in our music room, reading stories and, most importantly, singing together as a school of over 700 voices.
