Bell Time Changes Next Year
For the 2025-26 school year, the CBE will be expanding yellow bus service and adjusting walk zones. This is in response to Alberta Education’s School Transportation Amendment Regulation that comes into effect on Sept. 1, 2025. This means many more students will become eligible to take the bus.
When changes are made to yellow bus transportation, it has an impact on bell times for schools. That’s because bell times are directly connected to transportation. Aligning bell times across schools makes transportation more efficient, allowing each bus to run multiple routes. This creates a reliable transportation system, allowing students to get to school safely, on time and ready to learn.
What this means for us at Hawkwood School is that our bell times will change as follows:
School Year | AM Start | PM Dismissal |
|---|---|---|
2023-2024 | 9:03 am | 3:45 pm |
2024-2025 | 9:15 am | 3:47 pm |
If you have children in other CBE Schools, you can check to see if those schools have been impacted by these changes. All the bell times for the 2025-26 school year are available on the Bell Times page.
Grade 2 Science Coding Fun
EEEKKKK… an invasion of MICE! Robot Mice!
Can grade 2 students write code? Yes they can! Our grade 2’s dove into the exciting world of coding with guest teachers from Teacher’s Pet Educational Services! Using adorable robot mice, Grade Two learners explored key science and technology outcomes from the Alberta Program of Studies. Through hands-on, high-energy experiences that encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and skill-building—all while having tons of fun! Kids work together to plan, code, and guide their robot mice through challenges, developing critical thinking and digital literacy in an engaging, age-appropriate way. We were coders who created a code and were also the robots following the code to move around the classroom.
Through the generous support of our Friends of Hawkwood School Society, we will have our very own set of “coding robots” next school year. These critters can be utilized to access multiple learner outcomes attached to our Science and Math curriculums.
