School Planning Survey

The planning process for the 2025-2026 school year has begun. The perspectives and lived experiences of our Hawkwood School Families are essential as we work to create equitable opportunities and maintain the highest quality of education for all students. By sharing your thoughts, you will directly influence how we allocate resources and prioritize initiatives to foster student success. Please take 5 mins to contribute to our planning survey, link and QR code below.

School Lunches - Pack It In, Pack It out

During the current period of labour action within the CBE, we do not have the same level of cleaning occurring that we would normally see throughout the school. This includes our classrooms. It is a good time to remind families that whatever comes to school in a child’s lunch, should also go home. This includes all wrappers, empty food containers and whatever else may come inside the lunch kit. It is also a great way for parents to know exactly what their child eats for lunch and what they do not. This will also help to keep our classrooms  cleaner.

Childhood Concussions

What is the difference between a concussion and a “bump on the head”? How can you tell? Our friends at Alberta Health have some great information for families. If you have young children, at some point they are going to hit their head on something. Having access to good information during that time can really help. This includes separating some of the facts and myths that surround concussions.

Check out the AHS Concussions and Children - What Parents Need to Know page.

Dinosaur Adventures Continue in Kindergarten

What do dinosaurs eat, where do they live and actually how big were they? These types of questions can be very engaging for young learners and also help to build language skills.

But what would happen if dinosaurs actually came to school? What kind of things would they be interested in? Creating imaginary stories about what dinosaurs would do at school during the day helps to create important literacy building blocks. Including things like descriptive words, actions and even dialogue will eventually transfer into writing skills in grades one, two and beyond.
