Truth & Reconciliation

Each year as a school we create and share our commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation process. This year’s commitment can be found on our Hawkwood School Website. Part of this process includes working with our students around the 7 Sacred Teachings. Taking time to examine how Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility and Truth impact us as individuals, as well as our school community, is an important part of our work this year.

Writing Sequence in Grade One

There are a lot of complexities associated with learning to write that most of us have forgotten by now. Having lots of ideas is one thing but putting them together so they make sense to us is another. Putting them together so they make sense to someone else is even harder. Breaking things down into a “next … then … finally” sequence can be very helpful for grade one’s when they are describing important things like how to build a snowman.

Saving Report Cards

By now, most of you have taken some time to view your child’s report card online. Our next round of Student Led Conferences is happening Feb. 27 & 28 where you will have an opportunity to view your child’s work and connect with their teacher to discuss progress. While the current report cards remain available online, this will not always be the case. Families are able to download and or print their child’s report card for a limited time and then they are no longer available.

Volunteering in our Learning Commons

Who doesn’t love libraries? Some people like them so much they want to come visit and help out. If this is you, you are in luck. Ms. Allison in our Learning Commons is looking for volunteers. While there is a greater need around Book Fair times (Feb. 25-28) we can always use some helping hands keeping book circulation moving.
