What is Welt Felting?

Parts of the curriculums in some of our younger grades, particularly in Social Studies, are sometimes hard to pin down. If you ask adults about when they learned concepts like community, making connections, or belonging, most could not tell you.

During a recent exploration around the concept of belonging, our grade one classes created some amazing projects using felt. Following some examination of fiction and non-fiction on the topic of wool, by creating these felts, our students were able to:

  • Identify groups to which we belong
  • Manage tools and materials for learning
  • Follow new steps and procedures
  • Represent “self” and groups in Art
