Why Do WeAcknowledge the Land?

If you have been to one of our assemblies, you have likely seen us spend a few minutes in the beginning acknowledging the land. Acknowledging the land where we gather is an important act of Truth and Reconciliation that honours the Indigenous peoples who have cared for these territories since time immemorial.

This practice reflects our commitment to the original spirit and intent of Treaty 7, which calls for sharing the land and living together in peace. By acknowledging the land, we recognize our responsibilities as Treaty people and strive to build meaningful relationships grounded in respect. As a learning organization, we are committed to advancing the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action focused on Education for ReconciliACTION.

What is Digital Citizenship?

Each day, our teachers design learning tasks to meet the learner outcomes articulated in the provincial curriculum. The tools the students use to demonstrate their understanding of these outcomes can include pencils, markers, paper, crafts, projects, presentations, conversations or even demonstrations. In our current classrooms, these tools also include technology in the form of online learning, Chromebooks or iPads.

Digital Citizenship (DC) is having the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to demonstrate responsible and respectful behaviour when using technology or participating in digital environments.

Knowing how to utilize these tools to meet their learner outcomes is one aspect of this, but it also includes using technology in a safe and responsible way.

Each year we create a Digital Citizenship Plan that outlines how we will give our students the technology tools they need to be safe, productive and responsible while they use them in their learning tasks.

This year’s updated Digital citizenship Plan will be posted on our school website within the next two weeks.

Have a great week!
