Terrific Timelines

C 5

Sometimes when we look at many different historic events, they can get jumbled. One of the best ways for students to make sense and have a better understanding of what happened, why, and how it has impacted us, is to create a timeline. Ms. Colwell’s grade 3 class spent time putting together a timeline connected to Alberta. The timeline included history, geographic regions, first nations, settlers, economies, traditions and natural resources.

Visuals are a strong way to generate understanding in young students. Creating visuals in sequence often enables students to generate even a deeper understanding of context.

Boston Pizza Fun Lunch is coming up Wednesday, May 20! Get ready for a tasty lunch day while supporting our school community! Be sure to order at https://healthyhunger.ca/

We also want to invite all parents and guardians to our School Council & Society AGM on June 2 at 6:30 PM in the library. Several positions are open for election, and our Society needs volunteers in these roles in order to continue operating and supporting the amazing activities, events, and opportunities our students enjoy throughout the year.

Please consider getting involved and helping us keep our school community strong and thriving!

To learn more about the available positions and what they involve, check out the Council Blog:  https://hawkwood-school-council-blog.blogspot.com/2026/04/may-we-plant-seeds-for-great-school-year.html

Cultural Night Change

Our Cultural Night that was scheduled for Thursday, May 21st has been canceled. There were not enough participation interest from our Hawkwood School Families to make the event viable.

Our planning committee is currently looking at ways the event can be “re-tooled” and hosted in the Fall of next school year. As the level of diversity in our school community continues to increase, we are determined to find new and different ways of celebrating it as a strength.

Have a great week!
