Blog thank you

Thank You!

The end of the school year provides many opportunities to reflect on the people that contribute to our school community.

Danke

We want to thank our Families for communicating with us, supporting us and equipping your children with what they need to learn each day. Parenting has never been easy, and our current society places a lot of expectations on our busy modern families. You are appreciated.

We want to thank our Hawkwood School Council & Friends Society for your unconditional support, for adding so much to our school, supporting our families, and generally making our school a better place. Your contributions leave a mark on our students every day.

We want to thank our Teaching and Support Staff for always putting our students first, for learning, growing and adapting to demands that are most often out of their control, and for always supporting each other. Never underestimate your impact.

We hope all of our Hawkwood School Community families have a wonderful summer break. If you are moving on, good luck with your next adventure. If you are returning, we will be very excited to see you on Monday, August 31st.

Student Farewells

Yesterday, we said good-bye to 170 students. Some of our grade 5 students and all of our grade 6 students are moving on to Simon Fraser School next year. The remainder of our grade 5 students will be joining their Hawkwood neighbors and siblings at Arbor Lake School. We want to wish them well in the next steps of their learning journey and thank them for their contributions to our school community during their time with us. Congratulations!

Farewell

National Indigenous Peoples Day

Our Grade 2 Team and Ms. MacDonald did a wonderful job hosting our National Indigenous People’s Day assembly last week. They shared stories and songs with the underlying messages that strong communities are built by being nice, supporting and caring for one another.

Ms. Palsich’s grade one class has also been sharing their thoughts on what they learned around the 7 Sacred Teachings this year. This was guided by the question, “What was your favourite animal from the teachings, and why is the teaching important?”

Sports Day Success

This year’s Sports Day was fantastic! Supported by great weather, our 700+ students spent most of the afternoon on Tuesday moving, laughing, smiling and dancing a little. Big shout outs to our School Council for keeping our students fueled up by carving up and dishing out 40 watermelons, and for the Calgary Fire Department for hanging out all afternoon, connecting with students, and showing off their new truck!

Thanks also to the hundreds of families that showed up for our annual Fun Lunch Family Picnic. It was a great day!

Field Trip Adventures

Over the past few weeks, many of our classes enjoyed some “off-site” field trip adventures. Learning can often be a bit more engaging when you change the setting to something that feels new. While these types of trips occur throughout the school year, the month of June has seen our students visit the following locations:

  • Telus Spark
  • Calgary Zoo
  • Heritage Park
  • Granary Road
  • Butterfield Acres
  • Youthlink
  • Camp Chief Hector
  • Calgary Public Library

It is important to note that many of these trips were subsidized by the Friends of Hawkwood School Society lowering the cost of the trips for our families.

Have a great summer holiday! See you Aug. 31st.
