Happy Holidays!

Dec. 19

We want to extend warm and heartfelt greetings to all of our Hawkwood School families during this holiday season. We hope this time provides you with opportunities to slow down and connect with the ones that are most important to you. We will reopen for students on Monday, January 5th.

Our Halls Are Decked!

One of the most important parts of our school community-building efforts each year is our Big & Little Buddy Program. Every one of our Division I (K-3) classes gets paired up with a Division II class (4-6). These paired classes come together at different times, often Fridays, to spend time together creating and doing different things. This time of year, the festive results of these relationships can be seen in many places and spaces throughout the school. Happy Holidays to all of our Hawkwood School Families from our Big and Little Buddies!

Kindergarten Showtime!!

Over this past week we were all treated to two performances from our morning and afternoon Kindergarten classes. We saw and heard songs and stories about the Grinch and Frosty, with enough cuteness to fill everyone with lots of holiday cheer heading into our winter break. Thank you for sharing, Kindergarten Team!

Caroling Assembly

Ms. MacDonald led us through another great caroling assembly on Wednesday morning. Two of her handbell groups from grade 5 and 6 shared their talents with some seasonal selections. Special guests included Ms. Li sitting in with one of the handbell groups and Ms. Campanelli leading us in the Hawkwood School tradition of Feliz Navidad. We also got to hear Ms. MacDonald sing a very special Canadian Christmas Carol with the help of the students.

Mittens & Math in Grade 1

The grade one students engaged throughout this term with mathematics, social citizenship and Language Arts connections around "giving back"!  We connected with stories such as "Metis Christmas Mittens", "The Mitten Tree" and others as we worked to collect, count and reflect on our donation of 136 pairs of mittens to Project Warmth!

Indigenous Solstice Art in Grade 3

Ms. Colwell’s grade 3 class spent some time recently examining how Alberta Indigenous groups use art to honor the winter solstice. These paintings are a beautiful way of honoring the many ways that Indigenous groups in Alberta have contributed to its unique identity.
