Kindergarten Registration
Do you have a child ready to start school in September 2026? Registration for Kindergarten opens on January 12th for all CBE schools. You may have questions about eligibility, designated schools, transportation, before and after care, program options and how to sign up for a MyCBE account. Everything that you need to know (there is a lot) can be found in the CBE Kindergarten Registration Guide.
Can You Eat a Decimal Donut?
Part of the grade 4 Math curriculum includes expanding the students' understanding of place value to include decimals. There are many ways in which students can represent different decimal values including standard form, expanded form, written words, base ten blocks and place value charts. Our grade 4’s thought it would be good to “sprinkle” some base ten blocks on top of their decimal donuts to represent their numbers.
Where Would Your Hot Air Balloon Take You?
A simple question in grade one can take you to many different curricular places. Recently, some of our grade 1’s explored this idea through many songs, stories, read-alouds, rhymes and chants.
Not only were these learning tasks a lot of fun, but they also touched on many different outcomes from different grade 1 curriculums.

Brass Quintet Performance
We were treated to a special performance by the Confluence Brass Quintet last week. They shared a few traditional brass arrangements, a few holiday pieces and some surprises. They also spoke with the students about the history of some of the brass instruments they brought, as well as how they work. It is important to note that two of the members were alumni of Hawkwood School and remembered performing on the stage in our gym. Thank you to Ms. MacDonald for arranging this special visit.
Have a great week!
